Trama del film:
Balian è un maniscalco che ha perso la famiglia e che ha rischiato di perdere anche la fede. Le guerre di religione che sconvolgono la remota Terra Santa gli sembrano lontane anni luce. Ma il destino bussa alla porta di Balian sotto le spoglie di un grande cavaliere, Godfrey di Ibelin, un crociato che dopo aver combattuto nel lontano Oriente ha fatto momentaneamente ritorno in patria, in Francia. Dichiarando di essere suo padre, Godfrey mostrerà a Balian che cosa voglia dire essere un cavaliere e lo porterà con sé in un favoloso viaggio attraverso i continenti per giungere fino in Terra Santa
